Centre Stage, Midtown, Atlanta G.A. Usa
Living Walls Conference
The building is host to the music-hall Center Stage since over 60 years. Acts such as the Rolling Stones, Jay Z and Elton John have made music in there. While researching I saw that in September 2012 the Atlanta based Hiphop-Band Arrested Development will give one of their 20 years anniversary concerts at this venue. The first CD I bought from my own pocket-money was their album «3 years 5 month and 2 days in the life of...» to which I've listened to for many years. The song Mr. Wendal was my favorite one. It talks of housless people and their struggle of acceptance in society. As I saw many homeless while driving through the city and as they maybe never be able to listen to a concert at Center Stage I wanted to bring a bit of the music to the outside....
When I first saw the building I straight away saw the kneeling/bowing person. So it became MRS. WENDAl embracing Center Stage as if it was a pocket radio, listening to the music going on inside. Naked and homeless but content. She ain't got much but music.
THANKYOU Thomas, Kief, Devin, Kim, Doodoobut, Trevor, Lucy, Susan, Fletcher, the media Team, all the Living Walls Team and all the helpers, Center Stage staff and a big shoutout to all the supertalented LW 08/12 artists!

CIRCUIT OF WATER
The WASH festival has the aim to help make access to clean water easier for people who nowadays have to walk for hours to the next pond.
Artists from all over the world got selected to contribiute to this idear. I was happy to meet old friends again and make new ones.
Zezao / KLUB7 / Dhear / NAF / Billy / Alaniz / Mittenimwald / Shamsia / Sago / Bitte alles ändern
Thank you viva con agua WASH festival for making this happen and bring all of us together!
each one of us had a wall constructed of pieces of woods in diffrent sizes, colours and textures
my wall had a greenish round shaped part on the left, so it was clear it's gonna be a mami-water tale
the rest of the painting built itself up based on the shapes, textures and colours of the woods, of the imputs we became at the workshop about water-consumption that the Welt-Hunger-Hilfe gave us and of thoughts about circuits in life. Circuits of souls. Circuits of water.

Outside of Berlin, at the lake Grabowsee, stands an abandoned tuberculosis sanatorium, where a group of ambitioned people is working on realizing a project called kidsglobe.org. A project rooted in the believe that our future lies in the education of our kids. It aims to create a boarding school where kids not only get trained in common knowlege but also in arts, handcrafts, agriculture and how to respect eachother and the nature.
When I first went to paint at Grabowsee I didn't know so much about the project.... it was the day after Amy Winehouses death and my thoughts were circling around dying young. So in the train I had this ruff idea of an animal and a mermaid dancing handing over symbols of vanity to each other.... to paint the moment of full youth, joy and party beeing ripped into eternity.

A serie of paintings on and behind glass for my soloshow «RABIESTIKA» in July 2011 in Berlin.
I'm sure you know this feeling when something happens in your life, that seems so wrong and that hurts so much as it must hurt to have a knife stuck straight in your heart. It makes you rage and scream and drives tears of anger in your eyes.... similar to how rabies infected beasts go mad. With white foam infront of the mouth, totally raging out of control.
I made some tests with glass over the last years, the results did not satisfie nor were they worth publishing and when I stumbled over a religous Austrian Hinterglassmalerei painting in a museum plus some dusty frames in our attic I chose to give it a try. The fox, the deer and the baboon made it into the show. Savely trapped behind glass. Like animals in a zoo.

TIKA's Artist Statement:
TIKA’s work is a reflection on today’s global society, as well as the forgotten traditions and sagas of the past. TIKA has visited many places around the world, not just to travel but to get to know the local people and learn about their current situation along with what histories and traditions they grew up with. Born in Switzerland, TIKA grew up in Cairo, Brussels, Cologne, and Zurich, where she currently lives when not diving her time between Berlin and Rio de Janeiro. The name TIKA originally came from antibiotika, the German word for antibiotics. It’s also hindi-slang for ‘tilaka’, the different blessing-signs that Hindus wear as a symbol of power to protect the third eye. When you’re asked, “How are you?” in Hindi, you reply “TIKA!” to say that you’re fine. She studied at ZHDK but, as the artist explains, “it was learning about the D.I.Y. and cultural squat scene, reading a lot, living in a different places in the world, and painting on the streets that got me where I am today.” “What occupies my mind most is the diversity of points of views on life,” says TIKA. “Like the development of cities, how this affects spaces for self-determined living and projects. How buildings full of history get ripped down to be replaced by glass cubes. The effects globalization has on regional and traditional habits and architecture. Love, vanity and loss of people. How long and short at the same time a life can be and the before and after of it. I like to read about sagas and myth, about the written down and told to be true history and the actual circumstances in politics, economy and environment. What inspires me is everyday life. Random people on the streets, how they dress and talk and, if I get to talk to them, what and how they think. Of course, in the days of Internet I pick up a lot of information and inspiration through there, as well. Still, I try to read and see and think as often as possible without a computer between. When I create, it's like all experiences and thoughts run through me and out again. The feeling of creating while I paint, draw, write or cook is similar: I forget time while I'm at it.”? TIKA has left traces on the streets of Zürich, Bern, Basel, St. Gallen, Glarus, Berlin, Potsdam, Dresden, Munich, Cologne, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Salvador da Bahia, Belo Horizonte, New York, L.A., San Francisco, Paris, Praha, Biarritz, Marseille, Barcelona, Madrid, Milano, London, Vienna, Sofia, Amsterdam, Istanbul, Cape Town, Buenos Aires, Mexico D.F., Gvernavaca, and Puerto Escondido. She has put on solo exhibitions in Amsterdam, Vienna, Berlin, and Rio de Janiero, and participated in various group shows around the world, including New York, L.A., Sofia, Mexico D.F., Milano, and Madrid. TIKA is currently participating in a three month residency in Cape Town through Pro Helvetia, /A WORD OF ART, One k, and the Woodstock Industrial Centre.??“I'm learning a lot about South African history and current effects of Apartheid,” she says. “I will take these imputs and let them go as the view of someone who is not grown up here into my solo show ‘KAPTIKA’ (a mix of the German word KAPSTADT and TIKA). All of the work included will be made during my stay in Cape Town.”

WARRIORS LET GO THE BEASTS — THE SOUND OF A BERIMBAU
Swiss cooks have founded the project cuisine sans frontiere with the idear, that food brings together people, is a good opportunity to have conversations and through that creat a better environment. I spent five weeks with a chef and an administrator to translate and paint a mural in the favela Cidade de Plastico in Periperi in Salvador da Bahia.
We danced «rebolation», we ate rice and beans every day, we ran because of shootings and then saw the shot guy get carried away in a hand barrol, we were right next to the beach and every evening there was a sunset like an impresionist painting, the radio refreshed my musicmemories of the 80ies «heal the world», Elton Jhon and Erasure whise, kids drawing on their papers and tables and chairs causing another fight which belonged to the daily routine, dragquenns giving an audience on friday nights. Making new friends and having hours and hours of conversations and beers. Thanks to Cusisine sans Frontier, Sonja und Sonja, MSTB, Natal, Grazielli, Kelly, Emol, Julio, Thais, Bigode, Questão, ICEBE and all the other people!

altarlike Installation inspired by candomble, macumba and umbanda, the grocerys purchased at the market and the overkill of jewellery and costumes produced for carnaval
I spent newyear 2009/2010 in this chalet in the swiss mountains in Sedrun, Bündnerland. While searching for tales out of this region i found this one of a «Waldmannli» (small man out of the forest)
In a small mountaintown in Graubünden there lived once a juryman. One day this man found a very bizzare animal in his garden as he has never seen one before. It was a small furry, black animal, with a red nosed snout and big claws but eyes so small it seemed it could not open them and with small sharp vampirelike teeth. He put this creature in a box and wandered in the village to find out what he has found. But no one knew what it was. Not even the books. So the towneldest decided to announce a gathering of all the villagers and mountainpeople. But still nobody had ever seen such a thing. So after long discussions they then decided that it would be best to kill this thing. On the way how to do it they couldn't agree. That's when the Waldmannli stepped forward and asked to have a look at he beast...
which he at once recognised as a harmless mole. Smirkingly he suggested to the villagers to burry it alife. Pleased of this easy, simple and even chep way they burried it alife in the jurymans garden where it has been found.
Broadly grinning the Wldmannli walked off and the mole strated digging the garden till it looked like an acnefaced teenager.
